Announcing the Best of the Best: 2018 #REMAS Winners


To be a #REMAS winner requires skill, creativity, and results. This year’s crop of winners rose to the challenge and delivered more world-class examples of content marketing. The annual real estate marketing competition was open to all individuals, companies, and organizations involved in producing any digital Content Marketing for internal or external audiences.

Our panel of expert judges reviewed each entry on how well it fulfilled its goal or mission and on the quality of the Content Marketing campaign or strategy. Now it’s time to unroll the red carpet and spotlight the cream of the real estate marketing crop. Without further ado, the 2018 #REMAS winners are:

Best Overall Real Estate Company Content Marketing Program

Winner: Open Box Software

Focused on real estate, Open Box Software is a global software development consultancy delivering exceptional quality in guiding companies developing technological systems. Their content marketing program involves a blog, email updates, social accounts on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Google. The “Who is Rob Sparke?” campaign to kick off their Automation Engine has helped position OpenBox as an automation leader in CRE.

Best Real Estate Company Social Media

Winner:  North American Properties

North American Properties is a people-driven development firm with experience in office, mixed-use student housing, multifamily, retail, and other commercial sectors. Their value on relationships, creativity, and integrity are in ample supply on their social media networks. Just see their construction summit video on their YouTube account for an example of how social can showcase a brand’s personality. Each owned platform resonates a purpose optimized for that network. While they may share news across platforms, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn differentiate most content presented to that audience. As a result, they deliver meaningful conversations with their target audience on each channel.

Winner: Coldwell Banker Weir Manuel

Social is about building outstanding experiences, and Coldwell Banker’s Weir Manuel branch has showcased that in its social strategy. Utilizing five major platforms, Weir Manuel has optimized their content delivery for each of its branch locations. The firm is notably active on Facebook and Twitter.

Winner: Toll Brothers

Luxury home builder Toll Brothers has sold a lifestyle experience through its blog, lifestyle TV, and social media networks. Its Pinterest receives 2 million monthly views and Instagram has over 71,000 followers. Toll Brothers cleverly repurposes its long-form blog traffic into valuable social content. Their Facebook and Twitter channels expertly balance curated, original, and promotional messages.

Best Real Estate PR Strategy

Winner: North American Properties

North American Properties broke ground on their Colony Square redevelopment with a  winning PR strategy. Their even promotion utilized multiple strategies, including customized media pitches, branded signage, and event-specific Snapchat filters. Together, the team created a memorable experience including a live demolition of an underutilized building. The resulting event coverage led to 3.7 million social impressions across networks and 46 media stories with a total viewership/readership of 81 million.  

Best Real Estate Newsletter or Email Campaign

Winner: North American Properties

In their third 2018 #REMAS-winning entry, North American Properties sought to solve a problem faced by many metropolitan properties: parking. They paired with an alternative transportation influencer to create an email campaign promoting alternative ways to reach their Colony Square destination. The stories increased awareness of Atlanta’s many transportation options and helped tenants find new ways to get to work.

Winner: North American Properties - Avalon

Avalon, a mixed-use community of retail, office, luxury rentals, and single family homes builds excitement through engaging newsletters and email campaigns. Of note is its Savor the Boulevard email campaign which promoted awareness of NAP’s charity partner, The Giving Kitchen. Paired with engaging visuals and chef video interviews, the successful email drive helped the fundraiser exceed its ticket sales target.

Winner: Capital Pacific

Capital Pacific aims to foster authentic relationships with its clientele. Its thoughtful emailed content deliver valuable information to its curated list. Their quarterly market e-newsletters exemplify best practices in design, copy, and call-to-actions. As a result, their open rate is double the industry average.

Best Real Estate Company Blog

Winner: Investor Management Services, LLC (IMS)

Investor Management Services’ winning blog is a model of best blogging practices. The information establishes IMS as an industry leader by informing readers about industry trends. The content offers original insights backed by research or specific examples. Blogs are packed with timely information thanks to a consistent publishing schedule.

Winner: Apto

The Apto team puts together an informative, industry-leading blog focused on helping brokers hone their skills. Visit their blog and look at the number of posts per topic: leading the way is “best practices” with 301 entries, as of this writing. Apto combines the power of industry experts and a knowledgeable writing team with a strong, unified voice. Readers appreciate each blog’s clear takeaways and informative content.

Winner: ClientLook

ClientLook’s blog aims to lift CRE professionals to the next level. The content mixes informative content on optimizing their product and specific strategies that help CRE professionals win more business. The variety of fun and engaging posts appeal to commercial real estate professionals looking at marketing, CRM software, and real estate technology. Content updates regularly and aligns with ClientLook’s emphasis on innovative thinking.

Best New Product Content Marketing Launch

Winner: Open Box Software

To address the real estate industry’s growing need to integrate disparate systems, Open Box launched a Custom Software division. Open Box promoted the new service with the “Impossible Integrations” campaign, a creative and forward-thinking promotion that unified two impossible items, like “The CoffeeShirt.” The campaign resulted in increased engagement and website traffic.

Best Real Estate Graphic Design

Winner: Capital Pacific

Capital Pacific’s second 2018 #REMAS is for its visually distinct 2018 CP Exchange Recap Booklet. The minimalistic copy paired with dynamic photography highlighted key thoughts, messages, and moments captured during the event.

Winner: InvenTrust Properties Corp.

Retail REIT InvesTrust launched a distinctive new brand in 2015. Now that the visual branding is well-established, this year the team used the dynamic logo in creative new ways in brochures, reporting, and advertising.

Winner: Brixmor Property Group

Brixmor’s distinct “X-mark” logo has helped build the brand equity. The new gradient feature maintains the brand equity while delivering a more contemporary visual look. Clients easily identify Brixmor thanks to its striking visual identity.

Winner: Buildout and theBrokerList

For the second year in a row, Buildout and theBrokerList’s collaborative DNA of #CRE survey is a #REMAS award winner in this category. The team was able to create a design standard flexible enough to ensure cohesion and between annual surveys. The design increases brand recognition and user engagement through a dynamic infographic.

Winner: 5th Gen Media

The producer of Connected Real Estate, a printed and digital magazine, delivers value for multiple disciplines by educating commercial real estate owners, property managers, CTOs and CIOs on issues surrounding connectivity and technology. The magazine’s entry highlighted its cover, which has seen an increase in digital engagement.

Honorable Mention: Three additional real estate graphic design entries received honorable mention from the judges: The Doug Erdy Group, Sotheby's International Realty, Newmark Knight Frank

Best Real Estate Facebook

Winner: Brixmor Property Group

Brimor Property Group is a retail-driven owner-operator of open-air shopping centers. Recognized in last year’s #REMAS, once again their award-winning Facebook strategy highlights the good works happening at Brixmor-owned properties around the nation. The feed is rich in images, videos, and curated content geared to the business professional.

Winner: Toll Brothers

For their second 2018 #REMAS win, Toll Brothers’ stunning images lead the way. The page visually sells the luxury lifestyle. The brand mixes original content from its blog, Toll Talks, and video content including drone photography. Toll Brothers uses the various post formats Facebook offers to offer dynamic content to its audience.

Winner: The Doug Erdy Group

Houston’s Doug Erdy Group publishes a Facebook feed celebrating the Texas community, the group’s employees, and its happy clientele. The page promotes the work of its agents, particularly with their Facebook Live videos and marketing materials. The feed aims to be visually striking with customized graphics for its campaigns and posts.

Honorable Mention: #REMAS judges recognized HiTech Grounds for their Facebook strategy.

Best Real Estate Instagram

Winner: North American Properties

In their fourth 2018 #REMAS win, NAP demonstrates Instagram excellence by promoting the values of the company. The page exudes a sense of fun and professionalism that permeates NAP’s branding. In particular, its content on the Colony Square redevelopment engages users through branded hashtags, visualizations, and compelling stories.

Winner: Phillips Edison & Company

Grocery-anchored shopping center owner focuses their Instagram on the people and the locations. Using the platform, Phillips Edison builds relationships with the businesses that call its properties home. One example is “The People of PECO,” which features various tenants connecting with the company’s employees.

Winner: Dwell Summit Real Estate

Boutique real estate company Dwell Summit has the stunning backdrop of Colorado to make its Instagram feed a winner. In addition to the stunning homes, the feed displays the best of the local community. Through dynamic Instagram stories, the feed showcases the lifestyle awaiting future Colorado residents. The regular posting schedule includes a “Home of the Day” feature and spotlights on area establishments.

Honorable Mention: #REMAS judges awarded two Honorable Mentions for Instagram to North American Properties - Avalon and Toll Brothers.

Best Real Estate Pinterest

Winner: Dwell Summit Real Estate

In their second 2018 #REMAS award, Dwell Summit turned to Pinterest to boost website and blog traffic. Now Dwell Summit actively contributes to pin communities focused on real estate advice, home selling tips, and real estate advice. Their Pinterest viewers increased from 2,000 to 19,000 in just one month.

Winner: Analisa Valero, REALTOR

Houston area residential real estate agent uses Pinterest to differentiate her services from the competition. She has created a range of boards to highlight area characteristics and the unique qualities of area homes.

Winner: Toll Brothers

Toll Brothers’ third #REMAS win used Pinterest to target different population segments. The design team leverages their expertise to deliver inspirational and informative Pins. Their efforts drive a significant amount of traffic to their website and blog.

Best Real Estate LinkedIn

Winner: CBRE

LinkedIn’s ability to position individuals as thought leaders is evident with this year’s winner. CBRE has positioned Bill Waxman and Mindy Lissner as champions for the industrial real estate industry. The CBRE brokers use LinkedIn to lead conversations and partner with influencers with great success.
